MusicArab is proud to present Christine Atallah
 |
Christine
Atallah, Lead Vocalist & Musical Director: From a tender
age, Christine Atallah took to the bright lights, making her first
television appearance at the remarkable age of four years old. In
Milan she trained and sang alongside some Italy's great singers.
Christine then toured with the megalithic stadium production of
Verdi's Aida, having been, literally, distinguished out of a cast
of a thousand. International stage and screen engagements
followed. |
Canadians
and cinéphiles world over were regaled by her stirring screen appearance
in Denis Arcand's Jésus de Montréal. Christine took to the screen and
sang for the soundtrack. The film swept the Genie Awards in Canada and was
nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Until this day,
people remember the hauntingly beautiful singing of the intense, dark
haired beauty. She then completed her University training in music
performance. Throughout all this, a musical alliance was forged between
her and illustrious Canadian composer John Winiarz, that stands until
today. She is described by the composer as "profoundly
affecting" his creative work.

Christine then spent four years living in New York City,
where she composed, studied dance, recorded and appeared in more films and
music videos. This multidisciplinary Diva, sings several styles of music
with ease and authority. She often collaborates with famous Montreal jazz
pianist Billy Georgette. She founded the exceptionally original group The
Bassalindos, featuring the gifted François Lalonde on acoustic bass, the
great and gregarious Basil de Sousa on drums and the brilliant Danny
McLaughlin on guitar and the remarkable Firas Haddad on percussion. Their
repertoire ventures dazzling forays into innovative creativity, witty
selections, bravado tunes and tender masterpieces, freshly rendered.
Several numbers push the limits of jazz and move into exotic variations
blending touches of pop, sultry cabaret, torchy jazz, and Latin and Arabic
flavors. The Bassalindos also compose and perform their original music.
Christine has personally been involved with and featured on several LP's
and is working on a solo album with the Bassalindos. In whichever of the
many languages she sings, there is always emotion, yearning and passion to
be heard in Christine's sultry and powerful voice. Her magnetic presence
envelops and conveys the listener to a place where dreams and joys are
bestirred, and revisited.
